Iran wins 2010 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup

The Iranian national team won the final round in the Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup in Armenia with a 4-3 victory against Turkey on Sunday evening.



Iran reached the final stage of the world competition after it defeated tournament host Armenia (4-3) in Yerevan on Sunday morning.

Iran had overpowered Cuba in the opening round and trounced a Nordic team composed of Swedish and Danish wrestlers in the second round.

Turkey advanced to the final round with a 12-5 victory over Georgia on Sunday.

Former world champions Turkey defeated Hungary (6-1) and Russia (5-2) to get to the semifinals.

Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Russia, Hungary, Iran, Cuba and the Nordic team took part in the 2010 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Cup in Yerevan, which ran from February 12 to 14
