Neo-X - Medical Equipment

Neo-X is a compact X-ray equipment, which has a different interface between the patient and the exam. Aimed for the use with children, the Neo-X alleviates the high level of stress during radiological examinations. Using the Neo-X, the duration of the exam is reduced due to decreased stress and anxiety of the patient, thus permitting increase the amount of tests performed daily.

Universal Design for Hammer

Not much of a carpenter, but sometimes we do get stuck in a situation where we need to tackle the nail, the bang, our fingers …all at one go. Desperate times call for desperate measures and the Unihammer is a likely solution. The design of the hammer is such that it increases the target area considerably. Simply place the nail underneath the detachable head and hold it in place. Next, strike the detached head with the hammer, and you my friend have saved your fingers AND embedded the nail into place.

The Structure:

The structure of UNIHAMMER is rather simple. A steel piece that can withstand the force of a hammer is used to fasten the nail in position. Using a piston mechanism to raise it up and down, and the frames on both sides keeps it perpendicular. The user is able to hold the nail perpendicularly without having to place their fingers anywhere near the nail itself, reducing the risk of hammering himself.

Tip Your Hats Gentlemen and Start Your Engines

Peep here and set your eyeballs on a pretty darn good rendering designer, Mikael Lugnegard. This man who works as Lugnegard Design calls himself an artist, and with pictures so nice I’d frame em up at my abode, I’d call him one too. Today we’re presenting nothing less than the “Gentleman’s Racer” - an exercise in rendering that utilizes a triad of software tools that I’d bet an industrial designer like you would recognize.

This machine has the modern hotrod look. Modern vintage. It’s got the look of a Volvo ÖV4. It’s got the big wheels, it’s got the hearse cab. Simple, clean, and it comes in two colorways. Look at those glamourous bone-colored wheels! And the shiny rims. Not for heavy-hitting mud-slinging.

And here’s my favorite part (mostly because I could never even dream of owning such a radically gorgeous car) - the tools used to make it. Lugnegard notes that he use three tools: Maya, Hypershot, and Photoshop. You know which one I use most often (PS), and then we’ve got the Yanko pals Bunkspeed Hypershot. Yanko recently had a contest run with those peeps: it was wild fun for everyone. Check it out.

A Wally Oasis

Thinking about how ecology plays a role in urban spaces is a re-emerging trend in design. The Symbiotic Green Wall takes the idea of wall beyond its dividing role. It provides a vertical system for an entire ecosystem to exist. The wall collects, purifies and redistributes water around the site using natural processes. A digital monitoring system sheds light on water usage and overall health. It even cleans itself with purified water. I would love to see more of these sculptural installations in big cities around the world.
