Improving engineers’ understanding of advancements in geomatics to apply spatial data to improve design and construction efficiency is the goal of a new subcommittee formed by ASCE’s Geomatics Division. The Spatial Data Applications Committee has begun evaluating the suitability of emerging technologies for engineering purposes and will provide insights on application and implementation. SDAC consists of experts in geomatics and civil engineering, with specialties in Light Detection and Ranging, (airborne, terrestrial, and mobile), machine control and automation, BIM, and 3D design. The committee is planning an Oct. 14 workshop at ASCE headquarters on the practical applications of LIDAR. Registration details will be made available soon. Learn more about ASCE Geomatics
