Marco Paolucci’s S2S project aims to bring sustainable living to sea in the form of sea stations that tap into BioStream installations on the seabed. The BioStream devices exploit the perpetual motion of tidal currents converting their renewable energy into usable electricity. Ships can dock to a station and “fill up” on power as well as suplement their desalinated water supply.

Paper Cut
Möwe – Dream Paper Concept looks at the possibility of having intelligent paper that prints, auto cuts and folds 3-D paper projects. A lot of folks indulge in 3-D scale models and it is an interesting hobby. Mac takes the idea a step further by suggesting that what if we could control “where and how far to fold and also when to fold via Bluetooth or WiFi, it means you could move paper as you like without touching it. (It’s like embedding Javascript in paper!)” Building models from Google 3D Warehouse would be child’s play even for the non-devout! Awesome!

Inspired by the designer’s own personal experience of waiting too long during a stay at the emergency room, the Radio portable x-ray was imagined as a way to cut back on time spent in the radiology process. The device uses the same dental imaging technology that exists currently and incorporates it into a compact, portable unit that can detect broken bones or other abnormalities. Radiologists can instantly read the screen or print radiographs via from the unit’s charging dock.

The Autonome is a mobile phone concept with a unique charging feature. The regular way to do this will be to directly plug-in the phone to the wall socket, negating the use of any cables. Alternatively, you can detach the specialized module, tank it up and then hook it back to the phone and transfer the juice. This ways you get the freedom to use the phone whilst charging the extra ammo. I love the magnesium unibody frame designed for this, and of course the practical solution for charging. Ideal for travelers too!

Airborn EcoCraft
Inspired by airships and paragliding sports, the Sky Voyage concept aims to expand traffic networks to the sky by utilizing airspace to relieve urban traffic congestion on the ground. The hybrid glider/airship can take off vertically by inflating the gasbag in an upright position. Once airborn, the craft can be maneuvered through the wind with assistance from a hydrogen fuel-cell powered turbine engine.

Unexpected Wildlife Inspiration
To be honest, I saw a photo of this car’s inspiration before the vehicle itself and assumed it would be completely ridiculous… after all, who designs a Mercedes after a fish (a trout no less)?? But upon seeing the actual car, I had a complete change of heart! Though its inspiration is unexpectedly organic, the SLK Aphelios exhibits futuristic styling and a touch of fluid elegance that’s … well… very Mercedes-like!

A Lamp for Sleeping Lovers
Avoiding having a grumpy lover is the inspiration behind designer Francois Rybarczyk’s Cinna lamp! The lamp was designed to be used when you’re reading in bed while your significant other is trying to catch some Zzzzzs. The opaque shell twists to reveal an adjustable, subtle glow emitted from below that won’t disturb. Gotta love the combination of ceramic and cork materials together!

Funky Shoe Style
As the name suggests Topless Shoes have no upper constrictions or bindings. It’s like sinking your foot into a warm cushy hole and expecting it to ‘walk’ with you at every step. The elastic layer called ‘muscle’ parts under the foot and encloses it in a firm yet comfortable grip. Ideal for folks who find wearing shoes a huge task, and I’d sure like to give them a try.
Topless Shoes is a 2011 red dot concept design winner.
