This Bookshelve’s Back is Bent
This bookcase looks just like the inside of your back. There’s a bunch of bones in there, and that’s what this is aimed at looking like. It combines with the surrounding environment by casting shadows it extends horizontally by employing its lovely sliding elements. Balance, dynamism, and movement can be found in this beast through the circular attachment plates, all of them lightly separated from the wall. The designer of this “Schiena” bookcase, Pietro Travaglini, placed these plates as the physical connection between concept and reality.
If that wasn’t enough for you, the bookcase can be made of different materials and colors AND it’s got low energy LED lights behind it. Looks even better with books on it, I swear!

Amazing Rock Drill, Still Loud Though
ROC C1 is a compact rock drill solution for jobs where flexibility and maneuverability are key. It can be folded together and transported in a 10 foot container. Four independently controllable tracks are suitable for any terrain. The articulating arm enables free sideways and upwards motions. With a semi-autonomous solution the operator can work alongside the rig or at a distance.

Safe Journey at Night!
SafetyDistance is a solar powered road signs that line the outer edge of the highway. Their presence increases nighttime visibility and ensures road safety. The cylinders detect passing cars via infrared sensors and trigger off the warning lamp. Cars tailing the first are forewarned and can pace their distance accordingly. Depending upon the distance between the two cars, the lamp glows from red (too close) to yellow (close) to green (safe distance), and then ultimately switches off when no cars are around. The idea is to increase road safety via a self-sustainable design.

Get More Out Of Your Toothpaste Tube
Here is another intriguing Toothpaste Packaging design that makes total sense. SavePaste has a three-point agenda: To eliminate the hard-to-squeeze dead space, minimizing toothpaste residue left inside the container; Reduce two packaging to one. It means we can reduce waste and manufacturing price plus encourage recycling. And finally, have a user-friendly design so that people easily adopt it. I think it’s a full score on all three fronts!

Making A Big Deal Out of Lights & Trash
Solar power and waste disposal is always a winning combination with the green brigade, but unlike some loft concepts, the City Context is a very practical and utilitarian design. It’s the combo of solar powered streetlamps with color-coded dustbins within the shaft of the lamp. Icons on the bin indicate its use and help in garbage segregation in its first level itself.
Garbage collectors operate the open the bin using a magnetic card. So theft, accidental topples and hygiene are tackled at one go. Awesome!

Hydraulic Cutting Tools Go Ergonomic
Hydraulic cutting tools can cut through strong materials like high-carbon alloy steel but they’re were original designed for industrial applications making it difficult to transport and use at the scene of a car wreck. HOC” is a solution that ensures the safety and quick extrication due to its improved physical and cognitive ergonomics. The circular handle at the back of the tool is designed to accomodate to different work postures and decrease the risk of injuries.

Travelogue with Total Recall
I have this keen sense of attaching places with certain smells, especially when I’m on vacations. For example, whenever I wear this Armani perfume of mine, it triggers of memories of my trip to Japan, because I used that fragrance on my trip. Likewise, many people associate different images and sounds with their travels. SEED is like a total recall agent that captures the essence of your travels (sights, sounds and smells) so that you can share them with loved ones.
And when you’re in your own melancholy trip, re-live your favorite vacation, using this wonderful device. Bring back those fond memories!
Basically the unit has three purposes: sharing, remembering & guide.
Sharing
As a sharing device, you can instantly share your entire environment with family and friends using Sync Experience Service. The balloon-shaped device hovers in the air, capturing an aerial view of the place.
Remembering
The device features a Total Recall Service that amazingly captures the sights, sounds, smells and the mood of the place it records. Kinda like a 4D service!
Guide
SEED is a complete tourist guide and can give you a personal tour of your destination. It includes navigation capabilities hence helps you get around the city as well.
A very ambitious project but for travel buffs like me, it’s something we can do with!

Ant-proof Your Bin
Inspired by how a moat can keep enemies at bay, designer Shu-Hsuan Chang has come up with the Anti-Ants Trash Can to keep the ants and other pests away from the bin. The wide base of the bin is designed like a moat and is lined with disposable sticky tape. So when the pests try to crawl up the bin, their tiny legs get stuck onto the tape and are hence trapped! How clever! You can easily tear off each layer of insects-stuck-on-tape, to expose a fresh new layer of sticky tape! For flies I guess we can place a Venus Flytrap nearby.
Anti-Ants Trash Can is a 2011
IDEA Awards Entry.
