Sky at Night - Highland Ring (2009)

An episode of The Sky at Night where Patrick & friends observe an Annular Eclipse and Gamma Ray Bursts are examined. Here Patrick Moore is in the north of Scotland to view an Annular Eclipse with a few friends. (yes that is Brian May). There is also a brief look at a recent transit of Mercury across the Sun and an Eclipse of the moon. The other main subject covered is Gamma Ray Bursts. These colossal explosions are truly staggering and while they are linked with relativistic Jets here they still remain shrouded in a fair bit of mystery. One G.R.B. was visible from across 95% of the observable Universe and they can be as bright as the combined light of 1000 of the brightest Quasars.
