New story of the hare and Tortoise
داستان جديدي از
مسابقه خرگوش و لاک پشت
Once upon a time a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and started off the race.
خرگوشي و لاک پشتي بر سر اينکه کدام سريع ترند بحث داشتند و قرار شد براي اثبات آن در يک مسيرمسابقه بدهند
The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race.
• خرگوش به سرعت مدتي دويد و ديد لاک پشت هنوز نرسيده تصميم گرفت زير درختي استراحت کند و بعد به مسابقه ادامه دهد
He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as the undisputed champ.
بزودي زير درخت خوابش برد ولي لاک پشت آمد و از او سبقت گرفت و مسابقه را برد
The hare woke up and realised that he'd lost the race. The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race.
خرگوش بيدار شد و متوجه شد که مسابقه را باخته . روح اين داستان اين است که آهسته و پيوسته رفتن سبب پيروزي در مسابقه مي شود
This is the version of the story that we've all grown up with.
• اين داستاني است که ما با آن بزرگ شده ايم.
But then recently, someone told me a more interesting version of this story. It continues.
ولي بعدها کسي يک نوع جالب از اين قصه را برايم تعريف کرد اين قصه چنين است
• The hare was disappointed at losing the race and he did some Defect Prevention (Root Cause Analysis). He realised that he'd lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax.
• خرگوش از باختن در مسابقه مايوس شد و به پيشگيري پس از عمل پرداخت(يعني به ريشه يابي علّت پرداخت) و فهميد که مسابقه را فقط به اين دليل باخته است که بيش از حد مطمئن ، بي دقت و باز برخورد کرده است
If he had not taken things for granted, there's no way the tortoise could have beaten him. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise agreed.
اگر خرگوش همه چيز را براي خودش بديهي فرض نمي کرد ، لاک پشت مسابقه را از او نمي برد. بنابراين با لاک پشت قرار گذاشت که مسابقه ديگري بدهد. لاک پشت هم قبول کرد
This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.
• اين بار خرگوش بدون توقف از شروع تا پايان مسابقه دويد و چند مايل هم بيشتر رفت
The moral of the story. Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady.
• روح اين داستان ميگويد که : سريع و از پا ننشستن بهتر از آهسته و پيوسته رفتن است
If you have two people in your organisation, one slow, methodical and reliable, and the other fast and still reliable at what he does, the fast and reliable chap will consistently climb the organisational ladder faster than the slow, methodical chap.
اگر در سازمانتان دو نفر داشته باشيد که يکي آهسته کار و روش مند و قابل انعطاف و ديگري سريع و در عين حال متکي به آنچه که انجام مي دهد حتما فرد سريع و متکي به خود بي وقفه و سريعتر از فرد آهسته کار و روش مند از نردبان سازماني بالا مي رود
It's good to be slow and steady; but it's better to be fast and reliable.
• آهسته کار و پيوسته کار بودن خوب است ولي بهتر است سريع و متکي به خود بود
But the story doesn't end here. The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realised that there's no way he can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted.
ولي قصه اينجا تمام نمي شود. اين بار لاک پشت فکري کرد و متوجه شد که با اين روش راهي براي شکست دادن خرگوش وجود ندارد
He thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but on a slightly different route.
• کمي فکر کرد و بعد با خرگوش قرار مسابقه ديگري گذاشت . اما در يک مسير نسبتا متفاوت ديگري
The hare agreed. They started off. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river.
خرگوش قبول کرد. مسابقه را شروع کردند. خرگوش با حفظ آن سرعت و چالاکي پايدارانه خود، با سرعت بسيار از جا کنده شد تا اينکه به رودخانه عريضي رسيد
The finishing line was a couple of kilometers on the other side of the river.
• خط پايان مسابقه دو کيلو متر آن طرف تر بود
The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race.
• خرگوش آنجا نشست و فکري کرد که چه کند. در اين ضمن لاک پشت آهسته رسيد و داخل رودخانه شد و شناکنان خود را به آنطرف رودخانه رساند و به پيشروي ادامه داد تا مسابقه را برد
The moral of the story? First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency.
روح اين داستان به ما مي گويد که : اول هسته اصلي توان خود را بشناس و بعد زمين بازي را طوري عوض کن که با آن توان تناسب داشته باشد
In an organisation, if you are a good speaker, make sure you create opportunities to give presentations that enable the senior management to notice you.
• اگر سخن گوي خوبي در سازمان باشي مطمئن باش که مي تواني فرصتهايي خلق کني تا با ارائه آنها مديران پايين تر را قادر سازي که به شما توجه کنند
